Since building my first Forge and workshop in a chicken shed in Four Marks in 1984 I have made high quality pieces of forged ironwork for people as well as the more flamboyant, and costly, pieces of Public Art that are dotted around Hampshire and the UK. In the early days I made all my sculptures using a forge, as well as the more functional bread and butter projects. These included hand forged hooks and nails, strap and butterfly hinges for fitted kitchens, security bars, a number of fire baskets, staircases, balconies, seats and even curtain ties. This was as well as unusual bird tables, candlesticks and general repairs and developments to existing things both agricultural, mechanical and even ecclesiastical.
These days it seems like I am returning to the beginning! Personal contact for unique hand made designs based upon individuals ideas and requirements. ‘Farrington’s Forge’ is back and busy. As well as forged and welded steel, ideas also take form in oak, cast bronze and words stamped into the metal. Its great to develop ideas with people for their own environments and is a creative approach to making things.
